The Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service is commissioned for people over 18 years of age living in Central Lancashire with specific difficulties with speech, language and swallowing disorders.
The speech and language therapists within the team are specialists in assessing, diagnosing and managing people who have communication and/or swallowing problems. Speech and language therapists work within multi-disciplinary teams with other professional such as GPs, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dietitians.
Rehabilitation and management of communication and swallowing disorders can occur in several locations including in a clinic, in the service user’s own home and in nursing homes.
Swallowing and/or communication difficulties can be as a result of a stroke or a progressive neurological problem such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or Dementia.
The service also provides assessment and therapy for those who stammer.
How to access the service
If there is a problem with swallowing, referrals needs to be accessed via your GP or health professional.
If there is a problem with communication only, you can refer to the service directly or ask your GP or health professional to refer.
Where the service is provided
The service is based at our Ribbleton Clinic in Preston, we offer clinic appointments at the Healthport on Vicarage Lane in Fulwood as well as domiciliary visits depending on service user need.
