We are pleased to announce that from Monday (1 April), a site in Whalley formerly known as ‘Calderstones’ to many in the local community, was transferred to us from our partners at Mersey Care.
It has been a pleasure to welcome all our new colleagues who have moved over from Mersey Care to work for us.
Woodview, our 32-bed male, female and male psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) building, opened back in December 2023 and is now fully operational.
We have since welcomed 30 people through the doors and colleagues working there are delivering fantastic care.
What’s next?
We are really excited about the future of the site and the possibilities of what we can offer, in conjunction with other health and care partners, as well as the local community.
Whalley, which is the eighth largest NHS site in the UK, really symbolises our on-going vision to provide the best mental health, learning disability, autism and community-based services for the populations we serve. Part of that is allowing our patients somewhere to come and receive treatment much closer to home, meaning they are not sent to a place they have no connection to because it’s the nearest bed available.
At present, we are in a master planning period with a consultancy named Loxie, who have worked with us and a number of stakeholders to provide a vision of what may be possible for the site in the future and we remain committed to engaging with colleagues, the community and local groups, respecting the history and traditions of the site. We will keep you informed as things develop.
