Rawtenstall school girl, Lexie Eatock has sent a surprise delivery of gifts to local nurses using money raised from her lockdown hobby.
10-year-old Lexie spent most of 2020 making guardian angel pins for NHS staff to wear during the pandemic. As demand for Lexie’s angels grew – receiving orders from across the country - so did her fundraising pot.
Raising £600 in total selling over 2000 hand-crafted angels, Lexi has now given back by purchasing gifts for the nursing staff at Pendleview, one of our mental health inpatient unit, based within Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Each hospital ward received a coffee machine with 600 coffee and hot chocolate pods to share, boxes filled with biscuits and colourful balloons each displaying the name of a different ward.
Lexie’s mum and senior nurse at Pendleview, Abbie Eatock said:
“Lexie began making guardian angel pins during lockdown. At first, I took nine of her angels into work and everyone loved them.
They became so popular that Lexie was asked to speak on the radio. After that, she was getting requests from people in London, Devon, Southampton, and Birmingham.
She loves crafts so she enjoyed the requests for different coloured angels and personalised keyrings. I’m incredibly proud of her.”
Following her hard work, Lexie was named Rawtenstall’s Community Superstar this year and awarded a bunch of flowers, a bear and balloon.
As a further thank you from the staff at Pendleview, Rebecca Simpson, manager on Hyndburn ward, surprised Lexie with her very own treats including sweets and a thank you letter from Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCft)
