At your annual health check the doctor or nurse may use a pulse oximeter to check your pulse.
A pulse oximeter goes on your index finger. The nurse may also check your pulse by touching your wrist.
This will tell the doctor or nurse how much oxygen is in your blood. Too little oxygen maybe a sign you are unwell.
This machine also tells the doctor or nurse how fast your heart beats.
If your heart rate is too fast or too slow the doctor or nurse will be able to help you. You may need to go for further tests.
